CHS Works to Make their Headquarters Environmentally Friendly

Operating a green business is not only good for the environment but good for maximizing non-profit dollars.  Conserving resources and reducing waste saves money. CHS is proud to be making an effort to do just that!

  • CHS attempts to recycle and reduce the amount of waste in our offices and business operations.
  • CHS turns off equipment or activates the “energy saver mode” when not in use, reducing energy.
  • CHS encourages communications by email and prints only when necessary.
  • CHS eliminates fax cover sheets as frequently as possible.
  • CHS produces double-sided documents whenever possible.
  • CHS turns water facets off tightly.
  • CHS conducts routine maintenance on utilities and related safety items.
  • CHS is equipped with donated furniture items that have been re-purposed or re-furbished which is less expensive than new and better for the environment.
  • CHS turns off overhead lighting when not in use.
  • CHS uses long-lasting, florescent bulbs.
  • CHS adjusts the thermostat during non-operational hours.
    • During the summer, CHS keeps blinds closed to block out the sun and keep the area cool.
    • During the winter, CHS opens the blinds to take advantage of natural light and warmth.
  • CHS combines weekly trips to the post office and bank to reduce total mileage.
  • CHS shares newspapers, journal and magazine subscriptions by creating an ‘office library’.
  • CHS refills toner cartridges.
  • CHS buys in bulk whenever possible
  • CHS uses dishes and silverware whenever possible instead of plastic.
  • CHS staff bring lunches and snacks in reusable containers.
  • CHS uses cloth bags to transport items
